Compositions from Schools Around the U.S.
For the 2015-16 school year YCIW included many new teachers and schools from around the country. It was with great enthusiasm and curiosity that all of our participants set out on the Music Works 1 curriculum and began composing music for the first time. Our remote schools benefit from the web lessons as well as composer mentoring. As of this time we do not have options for these students to hear their compositions performed live. When we heard the fabulous music that was being composed and the great work of the teachers we approached our artist partners Metropolis Ensemble with the idea of holding a live simulcast concert so that students could complete the authentic experience of being a composer and hear their music played live. Under Andrew Cyr’s direction, Metropolis performed works by 22 composers from 5 different schools. We wish to thank Jeff Raban and everyone at NYU’s Clive Davis Institute for their generous support in hosting the live concert and recording session.
